Books I’ve Read in 2020: A Review

Usually I gravitate towards more cheerful and positive books. Like, a fictional romantic story or a healing self-help book. After writing the list of books I read in 2020 below, I could have not been more surprised and shocked by my choices. Most of the fiction books I read below involved a twist and a mystery. I was shocked by myself that I absolutely loved the added drama!

The most typical “shylah” books I read this year are Rinnavation and Untamed. I will go into more detail on both below!

Here are the books I have read in 2020. Some I couldn’t put down and some were hard to finish. I will lay it all out for you to decide!

Verity by Colleen Hover: This book took me by surprise. I absolutely hate scary movies or things that creep me out, but everyone said too many good things about this book, so I couldn’t resist. This is the first book that I read in one sitting. I was obsessed. I don’t want to ruin anything for you, but the ending is very controversial. Comment below if you have read this!

Rinnavation by Lisa Rinna: I have to admit if I wasn’t a big Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fan, I wouldn’t have read this book. But, because I am, and Lisa has such a fabulous body and outlook on life, I wanted to picked her brain and this was the only way to do it. This book was cute and somewhat inspiring, but I personally don’t think it’s worth the hype that the Skinny Confidential has created for it. I skipped through a lot of it.

Educated: A Memoir: Obsessed. I would have never read this book if it wasn’t from girlfriend recommending it and I can not say more good things about it. It’s biography written from personal knowledge so it’s about the author’s upbringing. Her story was fascinating. While I read it, I kept forgetting that this was a real story. It just didn’t seem real, it felt like she was talking about the 1800s. Definitely recommend.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine: This book was definitely a drag to read. Every time I picked it up, I noticed 10 minutes later I would either find myself asleep or scrolling through Instagram. However, the ratings were incredible and I tried my hardest to get through it….so I did. I’m really happy I finished it because it ended up being a cute story. But damn, the beginning is rough. So, prepare yourself.

The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty: My mom just finished up this book and loved it just as much as I did. The mystery in the storyline is so good. It’s so easy to follow and it’s definitely a page turner. Great read – definitely recommend if you are looking for a good fiction book.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty: I read this book before I watched it on TV. I absolutely loved the book, it was full of so much more detail than the TV version. I found myself explaining a lot of the storyline to Trevor while watching it, since he didn’t read the book. The TV version left out a lot of detail, understandably. However, I think you get so much more out of the storyline by reading the book. 10/10 recommend. It consists of so much mystery, and a lot of thought. I couldn’t put this book down.

Untamed by Glennon Doyle: I don’t even know where to begin with this one. Honestly, she made way too many good points… I had to read it in very small chunks in order to absorb it all. This is probably one of the best self-help books on the market. She is a genius. I know I already need to re-read it, highlight it and take notes next time. It helped me a lot the first time around, I’m excited to take it to the next level my second time around. Don’t read this once, read it two or three times!
