I used to see blog posts about hair care routines and was shocked people had a routine for their hair… here I was 5 years ago, washing my hair every damn day. Yeah, that was my routine…I guess? Also might I add… I’m pretty sure I was using some cheap $10 shampoo + conditioner I found in the aisle of Target. I also probably chose it because it spelt good? Who knows…
Anyways, 5 years ago, I also decided to dye my hair for the first time and my hair dresser gasped when I told her what I was using to shampoo and condition my hair (at the time). So, to avoid stripping my hair color, she introduced me to my first $70 bottle of shampoo…. That’s when I gasped.
$70 for shampoo??!
There are sooo many things I’ve learned about my hair since.
- Don’t wash your hair everyday
- Your hair dresser might be making $$ off of selling you that expensive shampoo and conditioner
- What products are actually healthy for your hair
- How to keep your hair healthy while dying and putting heat on your hair
- A hair care routine is essential
A hair care routine is essential because it will not only keep your hair healthy, but also will save you so much time.
So here it is: my hair care routine
Do this 1x a week:
- EXFOLIATE & SCRUB: with the Oaui Scalp and Body Scrub
-Sugar: Unclogs and gently exfoliates and conditions while increasing microcirculation.
-Probiotic Blend: Supports your scalp and skin’s microbiome’s natural defenses.
-Coconut Oil: Rich in fatty acids that nourish and moisturize the skin, scalp, and hair.
I use this product to really exfoliate my scalp. It’s important to exfoliate your scalp once a week to prevent product build up, helps with dandruff and it keeps oil under control.
2. DETOX SHAMPOO: with the Ouai Detox Shampoo
A clarifying shampoo that deeply cleanses away dirt, oil, and product buildup with apple cider vinegar while keratin helps strengthen hair.
3. TREATMENT MASQUE: with the Ouai Deep Conditioner
A mask that restores hydration, repairs damage, and adds shine to thick hair with almond, macadamia, and olive oils, shea and illipe butters, and hydrolyzed keratin.
USE IN BETWEEN WEEKLY ROUTINE
I shampoo and condition every 3-4 days with Ouai’s shampoo and conditioner.
Usually every time I wash my hair, I first use this heat protectant spray and then my Dyson Airwrap Brush tool to quickly blow dry my hair. It’s a fast and easy way to style my hair. It also stays styled for a couple of days. It’s important that I do this after I wash my hair because my hair is never recoverable after air drying or sleeping on it when wet.
In summary, I wash my hair twice a week (once to deep clean and another time with regular shampoo) and style it twice a week. Not washing my hair and putting heat on it every day has really helped keep my hair so healthy!
